An Eco houseboat
An Eco-friendly houseboat in Amsterdam
In the renovation and operation of our houseboat, we've strived to be as environmentally friendly as possible in both materials and technique. Where we could, we've recycled old materials (wood and insulation materials).
The ship is insulated with polyurethane (PUR) foam. On top of this a layer of air separates the construction wall, which is further insulated with stone wool and finished with wood chips and plasterboard. The floors are insulated with 7cm hard PUR boards, above which cement and floor warming were placed. assuring a warm and comfortable environment on the houseboat and throughout the Bed & Breakfast.
The houseboat's heating system and sanitary water works on the basis of a 1000-liter tank, heated via 60 sun-energy pipes and a pellet-stoked furnace. The pellets are made from pressed sawdust from the woodworking industry and comprise 100% new wood. No fossil fuels are used. Next to that, the ship uses 100% LED lighting and various energy-saving lamps. In the nearby future we will invest in solar panels that will provide the larger part of our houseboat's electricity needs.
All used or recycled wood consists of FSC manufactured wood (namely Oregon Pine and Pauwlonia).
